08f8 I joined 08f8 Kodiak 08f8 to work on self-driving 08f8 trucks!
08f8 I’m so excited to be 08f8 here 😊 🚛 Last week 08f8 was my start, and I’m 08f8 already riding along in the 08f8 truck and kicking off projects 08f8 on new and exciting problems.
08f8 Kodiak has quietly been building 08f8 an impressive operation 08f8 tackling middle mile freight transportation 08f8 , one of the biggest 08f8 and most conducive markets for 08f8 autonomy.
08f8 My team covers planning, controls, 08f8 and simulation, and they’ve been 08f8 08f8 building impressively 08f8 !
08f8 I’m enjoying observing the similarities 08f8 and differences between self-driving trucks 08f8 and self-driving cars. At a 08f8 high level, the planning, controls, 08f8 and simulation tasks are quite 08f8 similar across industries, but the 08f8 details create distinctions.
08f8 For example, Kodiak trucks operate 08f8 primarily on controlled-access highways, which 08f8 makes lane boundaries more salient 08f8 and reduces some of the 08f8 complexity inherent in urban driving.
08f8 On the other hand, Kodiak 08f8 trucks travel at highway speeds, 08f8 much faster than self-driving cars 08f8 in urban environments. This changes 08f8 the time and distance horizons 08f8 for the entire autonomy stack 08f8 — perception, prediction, planning, and 08f8 controls.
